2008 State Hockey Champions!

The Kinnelon High School hockey team went all the way this year winning the Public School B State Finals at The Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on March 22, 2008. Yahoo!

Here they are before boarding the bus (Seniors only) and coaches:

Here they are on the jumbotron at the The Prudential Center (The Rock) with Bryan holding the trophy:

And our school marquee!

The NJ Devils sponsored the High School finals which made it extra special for the team. The Devils had a luncheon for all 6 finalists (Private, Public A & B) on the Thursday before the game and then all treated to dinner after their games in an exclusive room overlooking the ice.

Despite the fact that the game occured over our spring break, it appeared our whole town was out for the game! The team bus was escorted out to the highway by the town police and fire department with lights flashing and sirens blaring. Thanks to all those who came out to the games and contributed to the team!

Oh what a season! Oh what a way to end your senior year!

Senior Day

Since we missed the day when seniors were recognized before the game in early Feb, this photo was taken after another game.

So we quickly posed and smiled while the zamboni driver honked at us.

What not to crochet

There is a blog for absolutely everything. Check out "What not to crochet."

I don't need a website to tell me what not to crochet, as I don't crochet, knit, macrame, tat or do anything with wool*, but it is clear that there is a need for this site, based on stuff being created, if only just to entertain.

My parents had a friend who often wore crocheted hats and sweaters and WORE THEM, thinking they were chic on some level (Mars?). They fit her adventurous, happy personality. She recently passed away and now we all remember her wardrobe fondly. I guess our quirks define us.

Our own quirks somehow elude us. Clear to others, but missed by quirk-owner. By this I mean that those who need to visit the "What not to crochet" site probably don't go. And perhaps thats a good thing.

*P.S. I forgot that I was into cross-stitch for a few years, but that's normal (right?)

1 Across: Mine entrance

4-letter word for mine entrance has to be "adit" as every crossworder knows, or soon finds out. Today I got photographic proof that there is such a word when Don and I toured The Sterling Hill Mining Museum just north of us in New Jersey. I know what you're thinking ... a mining museum??? Get a life.

The tour was fascinating. It was recommended to us by a friend (Sean). This mine, closed in 1986, was one of the world's riches sources of zinc, and now is home to the largest collection of flourescent rocks - its beautiful! The tour starts in a museum with an intro, then takes you into the mine through this entrance, sorry "adit", then along the tunnels to the actual shaft (that goes 2 Empire State buildings deep). With other stops learning about drilling and dynamiting, calcium, zinc, and manganese, and the various roles of the miners, it was actually very interesting. Our guide, Bill, was a wealth of knowledge.

Who knew - all this is NJ.
